All materials expand and contract with changes in temperature. To ensure consistent and accurate measurements, the international standard for dimensional calibration is set at 20 °C. By performing all calibrations in a lab controlled to this temperature, we eliminate measurement errors caused by thermal expansion, ensuring the highest possible accuracy.
Gauge blocks are precision-ground blocks of metal or ceramic that are manufactured to an extremely accurate and specific length. They serve as the primary reference standards for dimensional calibration. By combining different blocks, we can create a precise reference length to accurately calibrate tools like calipers and micrometers.
Due to the critical importance of temperature control for achieving the lowest measurement uncertainty, we perform the vast majority of our dimensional calibrations in our dedicated, environmentally controlled laboratory. We can, however, provide on-site calibration for larger items like surface plates where transportation is not feasible.
